Man arrested for murder of elderly man in Koraput village
Koraput: A 25-year-old man was arrested on Friday evening for the murder of an elderly man at Kumuliput village under Jeypore Sadar police station limits in Koraput district. The accused was identified as Tuna Paraja alias Cigret Jani of Kumuliput.Raghunath Gouda, aged around 65, was found dead on April 27 inside a roadside nala, with his bicycle lying on top of his body. Police said multiple injuries were found on his body and his throat was slit.Acting on a complaint filed by the Gouda’s son on Tuesday, police began a detailed probe. “Several persons named in the FIR were questioned but their involvement could not be established during the probe,” said SDPO Archita Mittal. Police zeroed in on Paraja, who was later detained and interrogated. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to the crime.According to the SDPO, a quarrel broke out between the duo when Gouda was returning home on his bicycle. The altercation escalated, leading the accused to attack the victim with a stone before slitting his throat with a knife. Police recovered the suspected murder weapon — an iron knife with a wooden handle — along with burnt clothes allegedly destroyed to erase evidence.Police acted after receiving the complaint and traced the accused, arresting him, SDPO added.
